Automatically recording and/or displaying measurements is called "data logging". Technology has enabled collection and recording of events that are too small, too big, too slow or too fast for human observation. "Tain" equipment is one brand of equipment that we use at Hawkesdale College, which has various probes that can be bought separately from the standard kit. Our kit came with a booklet that includes a range of different experiments that can be conducted using the equipment. Some of the mose frequently used probes are:
  • Acidity (pH)
  • Air pressure / barometer
  • Carbon dioxide (rate of respiration)
  • Colorimetry
  • Conductivity
  • Dissolved Oxygen
  • Dissolved salts (K, Na, NOx)
  • Electric current
  • Force
  • Heart Rate
  • Ionizing radiation
  • Light Intensity
  • Magnetic field
  • Motion
  • Relative humidity
  • Sound (decibels)
  • Temperature
  • Voltage
